Stress and Stressor Events
SOURCES OF FAMILY CRISIS

Every family must deal with times of stress and crisis.
There are diverse family responses to stressful events and family crisis. An important aspect of the impact of stress
is the way in which the stressful situation is defined-the family's definition of the event .It is more evident today
that families are under more pressure than those of the past. Some of the daily problems with which they must contend
are traffic, threats of life and property, expectations for children, unemployment, two parent working situations, childcare
and loss of leisure, time, relaxation and illness. In other words, there are numerous commonplace tensions and strains in most
of our lives.
If the additional stressors in the form of unemployment, serious illness, or severe personal or interpersonal problems
occur, their cumulative effect can lead to illness in the family or to some kind of crisis of well-being.Nearly all of
us will experience such a crisis, if not a series of crisis, because it is unlikely that anyone can live in a family for an
extended period of time without encountering periods of severe stress.

Stress in Marriage
Stress... Is it Good or Bad?It's both!
There are two kinds of stress: Eustress - which is good stress, and
Distress - which is not so good stress.
Everyone needs some stress in their lives. Without some stress you would just
vegetate.
The key is knowing your limits, having some skills for dealing with distress, and looking for ways to enhance
eustress.
Without realizing it, when your partner is stressed in a negative way, his/her negative energy impacts you
and your children. It is sort of a domino effect where the dog ends up attacking the cat because someone kicked him!
Look
at your ways of dealing with distress. If you don't have any, do some brainstorming together to find ways. We enjoy taking
a walk, or a short drive in the country.
A funny movie on the VCR or DVD seems to get the endorphins going in the right side of our brains. Laughter is a
great stress reducer. Even petting your cat or dog, talking to your plants, smiling a bit more, and asking for a hug can reduce
distress in your lives!
Think about when you experience eustress. Most people feel eustress at simple things like
having a clean room, a task accomplished, snuggling together, a happy child, a beautiful sunset, a good book, riding a roller
coaster, jumping out of an airplane, dancing. You're all so unique that there is no limit in creating eustress in your lives.
However, it takes a decision.
Go for it! However, we'll pass on the airplane jump!
